Why do they put us all at risk? (nuclear power)?

Our society uses huge amounts of energy and the demand is growing every year. Nuclear supplies about 20% of the power generated in the USA. Coal and Natural Gas generate about 45% and 23% respectively. Hydroelectric is about 7%, oil 1% All renewable around 3.5%. Personally I would love to see huge increases in wind, solar and geo-thermal . You have to understand however that at best they might supply 30%. Personally, I don't like nukes for 2 reasons. The first, you will have a Fukushima Dai-ichi type event every 20 to 30 years. The second reason is we have no way to process nuclear waste.
